My University Career
I started university at Simon Fraser University in the fall of 1999. I have taken several semesters off to work and save money. I have also taken enormous student loans. I haven't done the math yet, but I could possibly buy a small country with the money I will have to pay back to the various governments.
But I digress.
In October 2005 I was mailed my undergrad degree: the fashionable B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in Geography. No cap and gown, no ceremony, no stress. Now I have a piece of paper that I can use to start a fire in the country I can buy with the student loan money. For those who are interested (Dad?) my GPA was 3.48. I think that is A-minus. Possibly B-plus.
In January I started my next educational step: The PDP or Professional Development Program, again at SFU. This is the teacher-training year, although, as per usual, my 'year' has become 2.
I completed my first semester of practicum experience, in a grade 4/5 classroom. I then completed a summer of coursework, taking 4 classes including teaching math and French as a Second Language.
I struggled with my next practicum class. Those grade ones are tough, let me tell you! It turned out I was unprepared for such a rambunctious group and needed to hone my classroom management skills. So I withdrew from the program, and have applied for re-entry. I submitted my portfolio of learning, went to the interview (which I am afraid I may have bombed), and now I wait. I should know by early Jue if I will be finishing my PDP this year or not.
Update, May 24, 2007: Apparently I didn't make as much of an ass of myself during the interview as I thought. I just received my acceptance letter, and will begin my final semester of PDP in September 2007. Wish me luck.
