My Research

I have been working as a research assistant for an education professor. Now I am going to be the main author of a major paper (30 pages) to be submitted to a fancy-schmancy academic journal. This is very surreal to me. I only have my Bachelor of Arts (the first degree), and that is in geography, not education. I worry that somehow this makes me less scholarly. But my prof assumes I am capable, therefore I must be (this will be a good lesson for when I am teaching -- assume capability and the students will reach for it). And this is a fantastic and rare opportunity for me, so I shall not look this gift horse in the mouth.

Our research involves looking at BC's school districts, and how their websites do or do not aid social networking, trust and reciprocity for the people who are assumed to be using the websites. It's been quite interesting, and I have learned a lot about research and about barriers to communication.

I should be done the main body before I leave for my summer job in June, and then it is a matter of plugging in our data and doing final edits. This paper is meant to be submitted before the end of the year. Remarkable.
